Hello! I have a problem with this Weekend. I live in Hungary, but my Xbox was registreted to England. I see this advertisment, that 3 day Gold Membership, and i want to enjoy, but i don’t know, how to activate. Please give me a little help, sorry for my bad english…

    Bence,

You never have to do anything to enjoy Free Live weekends. If you have an Xbox Live Silver account just try and play a multiplayer match. If the servers allow you to play then you are good if they don’t then maybe Microsoft is preventing your country from participating. Good luck and hope you get to play.

I have a silver account I can check this with. I’ll update as soon as I verify it is active, probably in a few hours. Again, Microsoft did not sate that this was U.S. only so hopefully it works in all territories.

Do u have to own halo reach in order to get the free xbox live gold

  9. September 17th, 2010 at 11:20 | #9

My understanding is no. This is a free gold weekend because of Halo Reach but Silver members can play any game they want.

Yeah, its 3:38pm in ohio, I still cannot connect to free gold weekend. I have no idea why? But if someone could fill me in on the issue that would be great:)
    Thanks for reading.

Yo. I’m in the USA and I’m trying to do this free gold weekend thing. I tried to access the account thing from the front XMB and nothing happened it just wanted me to pay for gold. I tried to go to account management and still nothing. So I just did like you said and tried to just play matchmaking. Still nothing. I don’t have permission to play on Xbox Live.

    Hey Guys,

It looks like Microsoft messed this up. Somehow they didn’t flip the switch right. I’m also in the United States and my silver profile can’t access gold features.

F.Y.I. A real easy way to check if it’s working is to try and create or join a party. Only gold members can create or join parties.

I’ll update the post whenever I learn that this promotion is working.

xD; I’d make a joke about all the 12 year olds pissing their pants and squealing in anger due to not being able to play Reach Matchmaking, but considering I don’t currently have Gold due to financial stresses, and I had barely enough to get Reach, I’d say I’m in the same boat. Minus the ear-sodomy voice.

Currently it’s 12:30 PM PST (GMT -08:00) and nothing yet. Do you know if it’s required to re-sign in or not for the free gold weekend to activate?

I’ve even made a brand spanking new account instead of trying my Silver accounts. It still doesn’t work, there doesn’t seem to be an option to turn your Gold on, and it seems you’re always stuck in Silver. Even tried to just ignore the Silver tag and start a match. Also for the record. I’m scrolling the XMB and it seems the promotion for free gold weekend is missing. ^_^

I don’t think you have to log back in and out. That is usually only when you enter a code.

In the past Microsoft has flipped a switch in the code and the Gold check is not done anymore. No need for users to do anything.

Hopefully they add more hours Monday to make up for their mistake.

hey guys i got it to work by going into my xbox network settings and retesting my xbox live connection by doing the test network. Cheers.

I just verified it’s working in the United States. Please try it without logging in and out to confirm if that is required and post back if possible.

Sorry, I long since stopped waiting. Didn’t want to waste my time in front of the XBOX doing nothing particularly interesting while there were caves to be explored in Minecraft.

My excuse for not playing the Reach campaign? I beat it already. (On normal. Shut up. xD; Legendary will be next.)

I can get Last FM to work, but I’m really wanting to try Netflix and all that gives me is a message to “sign in to an existing gold account” or upgrade to gold. Can’t get past that.
